A word from the proprietor
...
'As a mother of four young children myself I can relate to the feeling
most parents experience when making the decision to place their baby into
the care of someone else. Fortunately for me I had already established
The Cottage when my first daughter was born. My own experiences and needs
as a working mum have helped develop the nursery to the standard it is today.
We all need to know when we leave our children that they
will be happy, fulfilled, safe and cared for. It is therefore our constant
aim to ensure that both parent and child are content here at The Cottage.'
You will find throughout the nurseries that they are divided into the
following warm and homely units ...
Babies
and Toddlers 0-2 years
It is our aim to make all of our room's light and airy providing a homely,
nurturing environment for all to enjoy. Typical daily activities include
singing, art activities including sand, water, outdoor play, plus time
for lots of cuddles! With the exception of bottles and nappies all food,
creams (unless prescribed), wipes, flannels and towels are provided by
ourselves.
Main
Nursery 2-3 years
Main nursery children are given numerous opportunities to explore art materials,
sand, water, construction and various table top toys. Part of their routine
includes stories, singing and outdoor play. Each room is equipped with
up to date toys and equipment providing numerous learning opportunities.
All this is provided in a small group setting enabling children to build
relationships with their carers and peer group.
Pre
School
Activities for this age group are varied, providing ample learning
opportunities based on the pre-school curriculum. We are inspected by OFSTED
and have regular teacher input from the LEA. We follow termly topic work
keeping parents informed of our projects and how they can contribute to
their child learning at home. We operate a reading scheme and keep concise
records of the children's all round development. We are fortunate to have a
computer which features many educational software
packages. As well as the more structured approach to the day we also ensure
children have the opportunity to explore imaginative play, construction
toys, outdoor play, stories, singing and music.
Additional activities typically include, dance and french lessons which are subject to
both availability and an additional charge.
Outdoor
Provision
Babies and Toddlers enjoy outdoor play areas that are totally covered in
safety surfacing. Main Nursery and Pre-School children have large play areas
and secure gardens which contain a wide range of outdoor play equipment.
Children make use of these areas several times a day. During the warmer
weather many of the normal indoor activities are taken outside for the
children to enjoy in the fresh air.
